The poor child. Thankfully, she slept through the whole thing and is blissfully unaware that her sister passed (yeah Amaya!) but she didn't. NICUs do car seat evaluations to test if preemies are able to maintain their respiratory functions in a semi-upright position ... which is hard work for someone so little they struggle to maintain those while laying down! Up until last week Friday, Liana was having frequent issues with oxygen desaturations, and we all knew that making her undergo a car seat evaluation so shortly after she finally outgrew those issues was a little ambitious.

Truth be told, I would have been surprised if she would have passed it. I have the advantage (over the nurse practitioners and doctors who only see the girls for a few days) of having the whole picture on Liana and her story, and even though she's doing remarkably well, she's still a bit of a delicate flower and gets stressed easily.
They'll let her retest one more time either later this week or early next. If she flunks the next test, too, she'll have to go home in a so-called car bed, in which she could lay down flat. I really hope she passes her next test, as it would be a major annoyance to not be able to sit her in her infant carrier for 4 weeks after coming home. The good news is we were able to work their carseat situation out. Their Graco snugride seats would have been workable, but got a brandnew one that is even better, which we can use for the first baby that goes home.

Aside from that, they've both had good days. They're both making good progress at the breast - I am just so proud of these tiny little babies and how well they breast feed! They both had their FINAL head ultrasounds yesterday (checking for bleeds in the brain) and both came back clear. The only other noteworthy thing is that over the weekend they've turned into babies who only like to sleep while being held!! I don't know where they picked up that habit, but the nurses sure love it :)

That is awesome that Amaya passed! When will she come home...tomorrow? Liana will do it in her time, but I know you already know that! So glad to hear how great they are doing!

I took comfort in knowing what I felt as a mommy, happened in the NICU and during TTTS. I am glad you had that feeling that you knew she would not pass (as you know, it will happen). Taking both home (w/ no nurses or machines) was a little less nerving because I could trust those instincts/intuition. I hope the time to have them all to yourself comes soon. :)

Yeah for Amaya! When will she come home? We used the snugrides for our preemies and they did just fine. Yeah for your girls!
